Shopify Variant Creation Limit

From March 14, 2019, Shopify introduced a limit on how many Products/Variants can be created using the API.
You can find Shopify’s official documentation about this .
Shopify has set a limit on the number of Products/Variants that can be created through any Shopify app that uses the API.
Currently, the limit is 1,000 variants per 24-hour period, after a shop has created 50,000 Product Variants.
It’s important to note that this limit applies to Variants, not Products. For example, if each Product has 100 Variants, that accounts for 500 Products. On the other hand, if you have no variants (1 Variant per Product), you can create up to 50,000 Products.
This limit does not apply to updates — only the creation of new Products or Product Variants. You can still update product fields such as images, prices, inventory counts, and more without requesting Shopify to remove this limit.
This limit only applies to stores that are not using Shopify Plus.
If you have a Shopify Plus store, you don’t need to worry about this limit, and you can continue working without any restrictions.
Once the daily variant creation limit is reached, your import will be canceled.
You’ll see a message stating:
“Shopify variant creation limit reached”
“We’re introducing a new restriction on the number of variants that can be created via the API once a shop reaches a certain threshold. Currently, the limit is 1,000 variants per 24-hour period, after a shop has created 50,000 variants (this may change). Once this limit is reached, the API will return a 429 error for any variant creation requests until the throttle resets. This limit does not apply to Shopify Plus stores.” — March 5, 2019
Request Shopify to remove the limit - You can contact Shopify Support and ask them to increase your store’s limit, providing a valid reason for the request.
Upgrade to Shopify Plus - Upgrading to Shopify Plus removes this limit.
